Christopher Creek Lodge is a historic mountain lodge in Payson, Arizona, tucked beneath the Mogollon Rim and directly on the banks of spring-fed Christopher Creek.

Stay among the ponderosa pines, fish without leaving the property, watch for elk and other wildlife, or use the lodge as your home base for exploring nearby hiking trails, mountain lakes, scenic drives, and some of the best outdoor destinations in Arizona’s Rim Country.

Choose from creekside and creek-view log cabins with full kitchens, private Trail Bunk accommodations with kitchenettes, or simple Pony Express motel-style rooms. Whether you’re planning a quiet weekend, a family getaway, a wedding or a group retreat, Christopher Creek Lodge puts you close to the outdoors while staying only about 90 minutes from the Phoenix metro area.

Providing you with an enjoyable stay while visiting the Mogollon Rim area

At an altitude of 5,860 feet, the grounds abound with ferns, oak, walnut, maple, the World’s largest stand of ponderosa pine, fir, spruce, and wild grapevine. The State Department of Fish and Wildlife regularly stocks Christopher Creek, which meanders through our property, with Rainbow trout. Good fishing can also be found in all directions. For example, five miles to the west is Tonto Creek, twelve miles to the east is Wood’s Canyon Lake, and six other Rim lakes and 20 miles southeast are Canyon Creek and Haigler Creek. We have four seasons in a beautiful setting.

A Lodge With History

We’re located on the bank of spring fed Christopher Creek and is one of the oldest continuously operated businesses under the Mogollon Rim, serving visitors throughout the nation and from nearby communities like Heber-Overgaard. The first cabin constructed at Christopher Creek Lodge, was built in 1950 and served as the “Original” Christopher Creek Store and Bar. In 1953, Christopher Creek Lodge entertained its first overnight guest.

Exploring the Wonders of Tonto and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests

By all accounts, the Tonto and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, and the surrounding areas, provide many diversified activities. These range from fly-fishing, backpacking, bird and butterfly watching, hiking, boating and kayaking, rock and fossil hunting, geocaching, mountain biking, and stargazing, to ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, hunting, and snowshoeing in the fall and winter. Also available in the area is horseback riding, antiquing at local shops, and always silent meditation. So, come on out and join us for a memorable experience.

“My family and I stayed at this place this past weekend. We had such a wonderful stay. From the time we called to book till the time we checked out we received nothing but the best. Todd and his wife were awesome to work with. We stayed in a trail bunk with our 4 kids. 3 slept on the top , and my husband ,myself , and our 4 year old on the bottom. What a bonus to be able to cook homemade meals for our family in the kitchen area in the cabin , and the nice grills outside. There is a creek that runs right through with elk hanging around. The playground and horseshoes were a bonus also! We will be returning!!”

“What a relaxing escape! Came up from the valley for a couple nights, and was welcomed early by the staff. Stayed in one of the "motel" front rooms. They're what you'd expect in a motel-style room, but more quaint, with a fairly spacious loft above. GREAT if you have some children visiting with you. Could also accommodate 3-4 adults with no problem. Lots of attractions in the area, but if you're staying put, there are restaurants and a nicely stocked store within walking distance. Can't say enough nice things about the staff. Truly welcoming and friendly!”

“Stayed for two nights on a Monday and Tuesday night, middle of August. It was wonderful! We had the entire place pretty much to ourselves. The rooms are very comfortable. We stayed in a Pony Express unit near the front. Elk would wander and graze through the grounds. Staff was very helpful and friendly and they have bags of peanuts to give you to feed the squirrels! Unfortunately, there was a fire ban so we couldn't use the firepits dotted throughout the grounds, but we were able to use the gas grills. We plan to stay again in the autumn to see the trees change colors. We're also planning a winter stay there and hopefully see some snowfall. It's less than a 2-hour drive from Phoenix.
All in all, I highly recommend Christopher Creek Lodge!”

She is responsive and her team is always willing to assist. The cabins are so cute and CLEAN. I will definitely go back for a regular stay time and time again. It has natural charm and is beautiful. Elk come by and are very sweet! And creek runs right by it. So stunning and peaceful.”
